This month, due to COVID-19, we had to cancel our annual charity golf tournament. We have been so grateful the last 15 years to have such a dedicated team of diverse community members to put on this fundraiser, raising over $30k per year for the last several years. But our dedication to our kupuna allows us to not skip a beat.
Hawaii Island Adult Care is holding our first ever virtual fundraiser on Saturday, August 29, 2020 via Zoom. In an effort to embrace the predominant energies of uncertainty and mystery this year, HIAC will present a "whodunnit" mystery theater production titled Who Whacked the Mole. Set in the 1920s, Who Whacked the Mole features actors, Friends of HIAC, recognizable supporters from our caregiver community and is sure to surprise and entertain! Join us for this online fundraiser and show of support, fun, laughs and a chance to win prizes.
This event is supported by our sponsors:
- The Bee's Knees: HawaiianTelcom and Dennis and Karen Maedo
- The Cat's Meow: LifeCare Center of Hilo/Hale Anuenue/Mark Mann

How Will This Virtual Event Work?
This show is a live production and will be viewed via ZOOM. Our audience can watch it at home, office, car – anywhere on their online device. And, as with all live events, anything can happen - so you don't want to miss out! The show “Who Whacked the Mole” is set in 1920’s Chicago. It is a “whodunnit” murder mystery where the “mole” in the mafia is “wiped out”, but no one really knows who the mole is till the end! Local actors will be playing the roles in this show – with maybe a celebrity sprinkled in – all done via ZOOM.
For some of our sponsorship levels, you'll notice that their “mention in the script” is part of their benefit. This means that, for example, if Hawaiian Telcom is a Bee’s Knees sponsor, their name will be woven into the script for the night – so this is going to be local style, eh?
There will be an intermission in the show where we will be sharing information about HIAC and give away prizes. At the end of the show, more prizes will be given away.
We are also selling Italian dinners for ticket buyers and sponsors to pick up the afternoon of the show. [Eh, dat's how we get dinner AND a show - of support, k?} Our chef, James Murphy, was the owner/chef of Pescatore for many years in downtown Hilo. James has set a menu - Italian of course! The meals will be prepared here at HIAC, packaged for take out (in packs of 4) and be available for “drive-thru” pick up at HIAC. Pick up time will be set shortly, but you will be able to pick up at least 3 hours prior to the start of the show.
A Zoom-link is available for a $30 donation – you will receive one link and can purchase additional zoom links or dinners if you like. For each Zoom link, you can have as many people huddle around your TV, computer or smartphone as you want. Still have questions? Call Lisa Kwee at (808) 961-3747 x-112
