Kona Women's March – 2019
Women’s Wave Tailgate Parties and Sign Making : Noon - 5 PM
Women’s March: 2 - 4 PM
Important Note: The street entrance to the Lanihau Center, from Henry Street, is closing beginning on January 7th until September.
Aloha Kona marchers, Please feel free to have tailgate parties at The Women's March on Saturday, January 19th. The manager, Geoff Schnipper, of the Lanihau Center, is being extremely accommodating and welcoming. Please no BBQing or alcohol, but feel free to play boomboxes, setup your political booths, break out the ukes, dance to sweet soul music, whatever makes you want to surf that women's wave! See you there!
The march begins at 2 PM and tailgating begins at noon. If you would like to make a sign for the march, please come from noon to 2 PM to make your own creation, we will have a booth setup for this purpose. We will have at least 30 recycled campaign signs (painted white) with wooden posts to hold, that you can write/paint your message on. If you wish to donate art supplies please bring them with you!
Parking: The Lanihau Center is expecting an onslaught of marchers parking in their lot and will be asking employees of the center to park below Long's Drugs, etc. Don't feel bad parking there, we are being expected. Once this lot fills up, please park anywhere else you can...Walmart, etc.
Tailgating Parties: The whole parking lot section of Lanihau Center, in front of Verizon and Oshimas all the way to Daylight Mind Coffee Company, is the best place to park your vehicles for tailgating and then work out from there. There is also a bathroom there as well. We will have few canopy tents setup in this area too.
Political Booths: If you wish to have a booth/table in the tailgating area of Lanihau Center for the march, please come between 10 am and noon to setup your booth/table.
Keiki Reporters: Please encourage all keiki who attend to take videos and pictures of The Women's March and then submit them to this Facebook page to share with the community. It will be so much fun to see the march from their perspective.
